...Research Research Research...

I'm about 3/4 finished with the rough draft of Lomere (working title).

There are a LOT of details I'm going to need to flesh out.  This will require research...  LOTS of research!!  Research is not something I'm very good at. I take FAR too many notes and then have to sort that and simplify the wealth of information I have acquired.  And this is where I run into the problems.  It's a fantasy genre novel, so how much detail do I need to insert to make a chapter "believable"?

    Any suggestions?  Advice?  Laughter?

  1. Don't get so caught up in the research that you lose sight of the story and characters. The reader is like a junkie looking for character development and tie in's to the story and real life (there's). Keep sight of that and the rest will fall into place. You can bog yourself down so much with the research that you miss the mark on the other. You are awesome at pulling the reader in and being vivid. Stick to your strengths. The rest will fall where it needs to.

  2. GYB, thank you! you have an uncanny ability to help me see through the muck! There's only one part of the story now that I need to get the research down. I need to learn how hunters track their game. It's an essential part of the story and it needs to be "somewhat" realistic.

Too bad I don't have more friends who are hunters! Instead, I am assigning myself the daunting task of learning it on my own, but have to be careful not to over-think it all!!
